Nagi Lee explores social pressure and digital overwhelm, and the quiet effort to hold onto hope and warmth despite them.
Drawn to the people hunched over their phones, she translates them into abstract forms. She removes the heavy wooden stretcher bars as an act of setting down a weight — and of attuning to her authentic self. The canvas edges left behind are kept raw or finished by hand-stitching.
She also enjoys photography and embroidery, rekindling her childhood sense of making things for the simple joy of it.
Born in Seoul and now based in the San Francisco Bay Area, she completed her MFA at California College of the Arts in 2025.
